Cerro Prieto - January 15, 2007

The field trip to Cerro Preito was a lot of fun. We had 7 people go, Kathy, Robert, Monica, Susan and her son Sean and Sheri and her father. The weather was great. Thanks to Susan and her big 4x4 we made it there. We first went to the mining town of Sasco. The paintballers beat us there so we didn't get a chance to see all of the mine but we did explore the Rockland hotel and some foundations and examine some of the many artifacts laying around.

We then we on to the site of Cerro Preito. We climbed up the side of the hill and thru the terraces. There are many sherds, we found plainware, buffware and painted. We also found a lot of worked stone including an agave knife and a partial doughnut stone, and a small piece of worked shell. We had fun exploring the rock rooms with partial intact walls. It was interesting seeing who could find the most petroglyphs.
