Regular minutes of Pima Community College of Archaeology Cub held at the Archaeology Center.

  • President Vija Garcia called the meeting to order at 4:15 P.M.

  • Present: 8 members

  • Jenny DeJongh proposed that the Archaeology Club could buy extra Archaeology Centre logo hats and sell them at various functions throughout the year.  Archaeology Month is in March, so that’s definitely one place where hats could be sold.  Club money would be used for the purchase, would come out of club funds. But the club gets .25 per hat and the more we order, the lower the cost of the items to us.  The Club could sell them for more than the cost to us and make several dollars per hat.  Vija proposed buying 10 baseball style caps for future Club sales, for a total cost of $120 to the club.  That’s about half of our total budget at the moment.  Vija will pick the hat colors.  Motion was made and seconded, passed.

  • Vija announced several upcoming lectures, including the November ASM-sponsored lecture on Chaco Cylinder jars at the UA, another on Native American Painting, Old Pueblo’s Third Thursday this week by Ron Towner on Navajo and Apache origins, etc..  Vija and Tineke will post lecture notices for ASM, Old Pueblo, AAHS, and any other relevant lecture notices on the Archaeology Centre bulletin board.

  • Heather invited everyone to Dave Stephen’s Frijole Bowl on Saturday, Oct. 20.

  • At the next meeting Skip Hooe, a former Pima College archaeology student, will be a guest lecturer talking about 3-D laser scan imaging.  He’ll talk about recent work he’s been doing for SRI in New Mexico.  People noted that it’s the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and so Heather will ask Skip if he could come the previous or next Wednesday instead.

  • There was some discussion of field trips, but nobody had any good ideas for field trips in the near future.

  • Mention was made of a movie about a historic Apache raid by Apaches from the San Carlos Reservation near Ruby in southern Arizona.  The Apache leader of the raid was Ulzana, and the movie included Burt Lancaster.  We’ll try to get more information on the movie and consider it for showing at a future club meeting.
  • Susan announced that Lucy’s skeleton is on display in Houston through April 20.  More info can be found at www.hmns.org.
  • Meeting closed at 5:15 PM.
