Archaeological Surveying I (ARC
276) teaches techniques and methods
for recognizing, locating and recording archaeological sites. Students will
learn to document archaeological sites by performing small scale
projects. Students also receive hands-on instruction in use of
compasses, maps, GPS units, and other field equipment. Field
experience in the Tucson area is an integral part of the course.
Surveying I is taught every spring semester.

Archaeological Surveying II (ARC 278) is a continuation of the first semester, and
includes archival investigation, advanced field techniques, crew supervision,
and selected field projects. Students will gain experience in performing
archival research, designing and implementing field projects, interpreting
field data, and producing project reports. Surveying II is taught every second spring
semester.
