Pedra Pintada Site
Due to the technical nature and practicality
of our Archaeology Centre programs, PCC faculty, staff, and students
have many opportunities to assist on projects all over the world. From
1989 until 1993 PCC staff, faculty, and students participated in the
Lower Amazon Basin Project in Brazil providing expertise in electronic
mapping and field database applications.
Dr. Anna Roosevelt, then with the American Museum
of Natural History, requested the PCC Archaeology Centre to assist
on her project at a rock art site in the Amazon Basin. The site,
known as the Pedra Pintada Site, was in excellent condition and
provided invaluable information for the region’s archaeological
record. Through the collaborative work of Dr. Roosevelt and the PCC
Archaeology Centre, the first Paleo-Indian site discovered in the
Amazon Basin was thoroughly mapped and documented.
