Owl Clover (Orthocarpus purpurascens)
owl cloverDESCRIPTION: Annual to 16". Flowers to 1.25" long, in dense spikes. Flowers violet-purple with yellow tips on lower petals. Leaves finely divided into threadlike segments to 2" long. Scrophulariaceae (Snapdragon or Figwort) Family.
NATURAL HISTORY: Flower bloom March to May, sometimes in great numbers after well-timed rains. Owl Clovers occasionally parasitize other wildflower's roots.
