DESCRIPTION:
Annual to 15". Flowers pinkish-violet, with 5 petals. Ripening fruit
pod sticks up (2") and gives the plant its other common name -- heron's
bill. Leaves are finely divided (fern-like), basal, and grow to 4"
long. Geraniaceae (Geranium) Family.
NATURAL HISTORY: Introduced species from southern Europe. Flowers bloom
spring through summer. As the pod matures and dries, it twists and falls
off. When the seed pod becomes moist again, it untwists, driving the point
of the seed pod into the ground.
