Desert Chicory (Rafinesquia neomexicana)

desert chicoryDESCRIPTION: Annual to 20". Flowers are white (ray flowers only) with undersides of petals striped violet. Flowerhead to 1.5" wide. Leaves simple, deeply lobed, dark green, and up to 6" long at base of plant (shorter toward top). Compare to White Tackstem which is similar but has tacklike glands on stem below flowers. Compositae (Sunflower) Family.
NATURAL HISTORY: Flowers bloom mid-Feb. to May. Usually grows within other plants to support it long, weak stems.
