DESCRIPTION:
Also called Justicia californica. Shrub to 6'. Leaves simple, oval,
to 1" long. Flowers are red, tubular, to 2" long. Upper lip
of flower is two-lobed and lower lip is three-lobed. Anthers have white
tip. Acanthaceae (Acanthus) Family.NATURAL HISTORY: Flowers bloom any time during year. As the name suggests ("Chuparosa" means "hummingbird" in Spanish), hummingbirds feed at the flowers. |
