Pencil Cholla (Opuntia arbuscula) |
 DESCRIPTION:
May grow to 9' tall, but usually less. Stem joints are about 1/2"
thick (wider than Christmas Cholla) and
up to 6" long. Each areole only has 1-4 spines (the longest to 1.5"
usually faces downward). Flowers are greenish to yellow to brownish-red.
(5/8" wide). Fruits (1.5" long) are green with hints of purplish
and stay on plant through the winter.NATURAL HISTORY: Flowers bloom May to June. |
