DESCRIPTION:
Also Cereus greggii. Up to maximum height of 8' when supported
by other plants, but usually shorter and may sprawl. Stem usually slender
(less than 1" diameter), and blue-green in color. Spines dark, with
11-13 per areole common. Flowers are white to 4.5" wide, with pointed
sepals and petals.
NATURAL HISTORY: Flowers bloom in summer with each flower open only for
one night. Plant is hard to see because its stems often occur within other
plants and look just like dead branches. The desert night-blooming cereus
is a root succulent, possessing a tuberous root, commonly weighing between
5 and 15 pounds.
