Claret Cup (Echinocereus triglochidiatus)

hedgehog cactusDESCRIPTION: Commonly grows to 6" tall. Flowers (to 2.5" wide) are scarlet, with green stigma lobes and purple anthers. Stems have 9-10 ribs, are to 2.5" diameter, and have spines (longest to 2.5"). Cactaceae (Cactus) Family.
NATURAL HISTORY: Flowers bloom May to July. Occurs at higher elevations (3200-4700') around Tucson.
