DESCRIPTION:
L=11.5" (29cm). Sexes similar. Overall brown with shorter, rounded
tail compared to long, pointed tail of Mourning
Dove. When perched, notice white edge to wings which become a white
wing patches in flight. Has two major calls, one sounds like "Who cooks
for who?", the other is a series of coos.
NATURAL HISTORY: Most are migratory, moving in from Mexico during the spring
and summer (although some individuals stay year-round). White-winged doves
are an important pollinator and seed disperser for the saguaro. Besides
nectar and fruit, will feed on berries and seeds. See Dove
