DESCRIPTION:
WS=1.9-2.3" (48-57mm). Upperside yellow with black margin and eyespot
that makes the yellow in the forewing look like a dog's face. Forewing
tip is pointed. Underside of hindwing with pinkish eyespot.Family Pieridae, Subfamily Coliadinae. NATURAL HISTORY: Adults fly all year, especially in the fall. Larvae feed on legumes (e.g., Parry Dalea in Tucson Mountains). Often seen in groups at puddles during the middle of the day ("puddle parties"). |
