DESCRIPTION: L=usually up to 3.5' (106cm), but may be longer. Typically dark brown to black with whitish to yellowish bands encircling the body, but the color pattern is variable, including all dark to speckled.
NATURAL HISTORY: Carnivorous, feeding on reptiles (including rattlesnakes), amhibians, mammals, and birds and their eggs. The Common Kingsnake tolerates rattlesnake venom and kills the rattlesnake (and its other prey) by constriction. Crepuscular, becoming nocturnal during the summer. Lays eggs.
