MINI LECTURE

Objective: to learn more in depth about a subject of interest to the student and the class. To gain practice making and delivering a PowerPoint presentation.

Point Value: 5 points to be used as a make-up assignment or, if no make-up is necessary, then as extra-credit.

Assignment:

  • Choose a topic related to natural history of the southwest (that isn’t already specifically covered in class or by another student) and that will be interesting to you and the whole class.
  • Present the topic to the class in 5-10 minutes using PowerPoint.
  • The presentation should have at least 5 slides and must include images.
  • You need to provide citations for where you obtained the information you included in your presentation.
  • You need to follow the Tips for PowerPoint presentations (e.g., font size must be 28 point or greater).

Scoring Rubric:

  • Presentation depth and relevance
  • Presentation length (5-10 minutes)(5+ slides)
  • PowerPoint included citations and images
  • PowerPoint clear and visually attractive (see tips online)
  • Oral Presentation delivery (see tips online)(e.g., don't read verbatim notes)
  • Penalties: late (-1 pt); less than 5 min long (-1+ pts); more than 10 min long (-1+ pts)
