Dental Laboratory Technology

The total Dental Laboratory Technology Program is made up of four semesters of classes. It includes 1,492 clock hours of laboratory practice. Graduates will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree with a major in dental laboratory technology. Graduates of the Dental Laboratory Technology program qualify to take the National Board for Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology's Recognized Graduate Exam. After two years of practical work experience, the recognized graduate can qualify to take the Certified Dental Technician practical exam given by the National Board for Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology.

Our Program Mission   (back)

The mission of the Dental Laboratory Technology Program at Pima Community College is to serve all members of the community. The program will provide the opportunity for students to learn all aspects of dental prosthetic fabrication. This education will include a basic understanding of the principals of oral physiology as it relates to prosthetic fabrication and an introduction to the most current techniques. Techniques covered in this program will be geared to the standards of industry. Emphasis will be placed on instilling an appreciation and respect for all members of the team of dental health care professionals. In addition students will learn of the ethical and life long learning commitments that are involved in becoming a member of that team.

  1. Provide a dental laboratory technology program which meets the educational standards established by the College, the Arizona State Board of education, and the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Education.
  2. Prepare students to enter a community of professionals and assume a defined and responsible role in the care and treatment of patients.
  3. Provide students with a strong educational background in all aspects of the industry.
  4. Enable students to apply knowledge to arrive at unique and practical solutions to the restorative challenges of an increasingly sophisticated and demanding population of dentists and patients.
  5. Strive to maintain an educational setting that is up to date and geared to the standards of industry.
  6. Understanding of the role and function of the dental laboratory technician as a team member with in the dental health care community.
  7. Produce graduates who are ethically grounded and committed to life long learning.
  8. Enhance student recruitment, remediation, retention, and program completion.
  9. Ensure that all outcome measures meet the accountability guidelines of the College and the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Education and needs of the community.
