DESCRIPTION:
Shrub to 4'. Leaves are simple, smooth-edged (in contrast to toothed in
Triangleleaf Bursage), triangular-shaped
(or sometimes oval or oblong), and greenish- to silvery-gray. Flowers
bloom Nov. - May and are bright yellow, daisy-like, and occur on top of
long, brittle stems sticking up from rest of plant. Compositae (Sunflower)
Family.
NATURAL HISTORY: Common name in Spanish is Incienso because the gum or
resin that exudes from its stems can be burned as incense (or chewed as
gum). Rainwater dissolves chemicals from the foliage that fall to the
soil and inhibit germination by many species.
