DESCRIPTION:
L=5.5" (14cm). Sexes same. Overall grayish-brown with black throat
and breast and white stripe above and below the eye. Song consists of
two high notes followed by a trill (that sounds like the tinkling of a
small, ceramic bell).NATURAL HISTORY: Called the "ultimate dryland sparrow" by Kenn Kaufman, the black-throated sparrow is a permanent resident. It feeds on seeds, insects, and new shoots. |
