DESCRIPTION: up to 2.25". Extremely well-camouflaged, its color is usually light gray/brown to darker gray/brown with darker blotches covering its body so that it blends in with its background. Look for rounded toe pads on all feet. Female throat color matches underbelly (cream-colored), but male's throat is darker than underbelly. Male's call is an explosive, single-pitched trill.
NATURAL HISTORY: Canyon treefrogs prefer to live along streams in rocky canyons, where they often sit motionless on boulders. It takes sharp eyes or the treefrog's movement to spot them. Their call may be heard during the monsoon summer months (sometimes earlier) as males attempt to attract females for mating. After spawning, their large egg masses float on the water.
