DESCRIPTION: L=7" (18cm). Sexes similar. Brownish-gray upperparts, gray underparts and head. Crown is striped black and white.
SONG/CALL: Song is variable across range (many dialects), but includes one or more beginning notes followed usually by a series of twittering notes. Calls include a "pink" or "tseep" note.
NATURAL HISTORY: Occur here in highest abundance in winter (like other native sparrows), when they may form large flocks. Diet includes a variety of plant materials (e.g., seeds, blossoms, fresh leaves) and arthropods.
