DESCRIPTION: L=11" (28cm). Sexes similar. Overall brown, with some mottling on breast and light-colored chin. Bill is long and down-curved. Eye usually yellowish-orange.
SONG/CALL: Song is a beautiful set of trills and warbles, with no obvious pauses for breath and little repitition of phrases as in northern. Call is a loud, distinctive "whit wheet".
NATURAL HISTORY: Diet composed of small invertebrates, fruits, berries, and nectar (often seen feeding on saguaro nectar). Pairs remain together on territory year-round.
