Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa spp)

DESCRIPTION: L=1".  Black bee without hair on abdomen. 
NATURAL HISTORY: The female chews cavities into branches (some species prefer dried yucca and agave stalks), lays eggs and provisions with "bee bread" for larvae.
