NATURAL HISTORY: This is Arizona's State Bird. Its commonly seen nest is
about the size and shape of a football with a hole at one end and usually
is made out of grass. Nests are used for roosting as well as raising offspring
and are most often built in chollas (e.g., chainfruit
chollas). Diet is extremely variable, including arthropods, small vertebrates,
fruits, seeds, and even nectar. Pairs stay together year-round on their
territories. |
