DESCRIPTION: Large shrub or small tree up to 20 ft high. Bark gray to brown and scaly. Spines brown to gray, curved and appear singly along branches. Leaves are bipinnately compound. Flowers are pale yellow, forming dense, cylindrical, clusters to 2.5" long in late spring. Fruit is like a flattened string bean. Fabaceae (Legume) Family.
NATURAL HISTORY: Warning: this plant is often called the "wait-a-minute bush" because the "claws" grab you fiercely and don't give up their hold easily. Its flowers attract a wide variety of insects.
