Western Spadefoot (Scaphiopus hammondi)

DESCRIPTION: 2.5". Color is generally brownish, usually darker than the desert spadefoot. Pupils are vertical (like other spadefoots but in contrast to horizontal in other frogs/toads), and each hindfoot has a hardened, dark-colored ridge ("spade") that aids in burrowing.
